Warning About “Free Bee Removal” – My Experience (Middleton)

I came across a post on Craigslist offering “free bee removal,” and it reminded me of something I feel people need to be warned about.
Last year, I had a large swarm of bees at my home. Two men showed up. One of them told me he would help me keep my bees — that he would move them into a bee box for me and even help me get started as a beekeeper. I was told they weren’t going to take my bees, just relocate them so I could have them.
That is not what happened.
Before I fully realized what was going on, they removed the bees and took them. I didn’t get my bees, I didn’t get a bee box, and I didn’t get the help I was promised.
Afterward, I asked about the honey. I had been told I would get some. They showed me a small cooler with just a little bit in it, which didn’t seem right. Then I noticed a 5-gallon bucket they were being careful not to show me. When I insisted on seeing it, it was full of honey.
I asked where my share was — and I never received anything. Not even a drop.
Honestly, I would do anything to have my bees back. The whole situation feels wrong, and it’s been surprisingly emotional. The energy in my home has completely changed without them — it’s quieter, and not in a good way.
This is just a warning: please be careful. If you’re dealing with anyone offering “free bee removal,” make sure everything is clearly agreed on ahead of time and don’t assume they’re there to help you keep your bees.
I trusted what I was told, and I regret it.
