Avalon Tree Farm – Meridian, Idaho
Avalon Tree Farm is seeking a motivated, career-minded Tree Farm Technician to join our growing operation. This position is designed for someone serious about building a long-term career in arboriculture, nursery production, or urban forestry. We are looking for an individual who is beyond general labor but still developing toward professional certification—someone who wants to learn, improve, and contribute to producing high-quality, contractor-grade trees.
This role bridges the gap between entry-level field work and Certified Arborist-level responsibility. You will work directly with leadership to ensure trees meet professional production standards, proper structure development, and ANSI nursery stock guidelines. The right candidate will take pride in doing things correctly—not just quickly.
· Perform structural pruning on young shade and ornamental trees to promote strong branch architecture and long-term performance.
· Evaluate and correct root systems, including identifying root flare, correcting circling roots, and ensuring proper planting depth.
· Assist with irrigation system monitoring, troubleshooting, and seasonal adjustments.
· Stake and establish newly planted trees according to best management practices.
· Scout for pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies and report findings promptly.
· Operate farm equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, tractors, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
· Assist with tree layout, spacing, tagging, and inventory tracking.
· Maintain clean, organized work areas and uphold safety standards at all times.
· 1–3 years of experience in landscaping, tree care, nursery production, horticulture, or related field.
· Strong interest in pursuing ISA Certified Arborist credential (or currently studying).
· Understanding of proper pruning cuts, tree structure, and root flare identification.
· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
· Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow established production standards.
· Reliable transportation and consistent work ethic.
· ISA Certified Arborist (or actively working toward certification).
· Coursework in horticulture, forestry, or natural resources.
· Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain one.
· Experience with irrigation systems or basic mechanical troubleshooting.
· Equipment operation experience (forklift, skid steer, compact tractor).
We offer competitive compensation based on experience, opportunities for advancement, and hands-on mentorship in professional tree production. This position provides a pathway into advanced arboriculture, production management, or urban forestry roles for the right individual. Our culture emphasizes integrity, professionalism, and producing trees that meet contractor and municipal expectations.
If you are a motivated individual with a passion for tree farming and management, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity at Avalon Farms. Join us in shaping the future of our growing tree farm!
