Seeking a part-time private pay caregiver for 96-year-old father with dementia on Sundays and Mondays, in Boise, from 12pm-9pm. Possibility for more hours (9am-9pm same days). Must be strong enough to assist with walking, be comfortable changing undergarments due to incontinence, prepare simple meals, administer medications, tend to foot problems due to neuropathy, light housekeeping (including laundry), and basic care of beloved family cat (MUST be okay with cats). Family is local and very involved with his care and well-being. He currently has additional caregivers who have been with our family for years. We are seeking another female caregiver as his needs are increasing and would like to find someone with this sort of experience.
Candidate MUST have a patient, calm, loving, positive attitude and a history in caring for client(s) with dementia. Knowing when to engage and when to give him some space if he’s feeling agitated is important. He can be confused and resistant to care at the beginning, not knowing who you are. That’s where experience comes in. Knowing never to insist, but try again in a while. Sense of humor a plus and reliability is everything. Our father is hard of hearing so it is important the caregiver speak English clearly and is experienced with repetitious conversation as part of the dementia. Must have reliable transportation, and pass a criminal background check and drug screen. Proven history of job stability. References must be included and will be checked.
