2005 Volvo S80. Mechanic Special. $750 OBO. This car has served its purpose of getting our kids to and from school for 6.5 years. We have put 30,000 miles on it. It has many things about it that we have loved but has accumulated many issues. We need to part with it. This post is my effort to give full disclosure
Pros:
It still drives
Roomy interior
Air conditioning and heat work (see note below in the Cons)
Big Trunk Space
No Dents
No Oil Leaks
2 working Key Fobs
Sun Roof
Radio Works
Cons:(sit back and take it all in)
1. Transmission is not fully reliable(It does OK when the engine is cool. In warmer weather or if you have been driving for a while the transmission will sometimes have hard gear changes where there is a delay and then the car hits into gear. Sometimes this is not an issue at all for shorter drives.)
2. Leaks Coolant at a Rapid Pace(We have to put more coolant in very often. When we got an oil change the mechanic wasn't exactly sure where the leak was coming from but thought that it was coming from the area of the water pump. When I priced this out- it was between $600-$1000 for a water pump change. If the leak is from a hose that our mechanic didn't see it could be a much less expensive repair).
3. Sometimes we can't turn the AC/Heater off. Unsure if there is an issue with the heat and air conditioning buttons.
4. The leather upholstery has issues. We bought the car with the current seat covers on them and haven't tried to do anything to fix the upholstery. The upholstery on the back seats has a lot of wear but no tears. The motorized seat adjustment still work great.
5. The drivers window doesn't fully work. The window won't fully close. We added some rubber border to "plug" the top of the window- but have just got in the habit that we don't open that window. The other windows work.
