I just completed a pair of beautiful cedar strip canoes, $3,300 for BOTH of them, paddles included! They are both from the Featherweight Boatbuilding book by Mac McCarthy. The "Her's" canoe is called the Wee Lassie and is 11'7"x 27" and weighs an incredible 23lbs. The recommended load capacity is 200 lbs. The "His" canoe is the Wee Lassie 2 and is 13'7"x 29" and weighs 29lbs. The recommended load capacity is 230 lbs.
Construction and materials are identical with both boats. They are built with western red cedar strips 3/16" x .7"; accent pieces are pine. Gunnels, thwart, seat and tips are mahogany and the stems are eastern ash. Of particular note; they were constructed without any seams and NO STAPLES! That means there are no staple holes running up and down every one foot interval. I used 4 oz fiberglass cloth, and filled with epoxy resin on both the outside and inside with a double layer running the full length about 8" in width on both the inside and outside. I completed the projects with three coats of high gloss Spar varnish. Included in the purchase are matching wooden paddles, 260 cm in length. If you prefer not to have the paddles, reduce the price by $100 for each paddle. If this design/size is not to your liking, consider commissioning me to build one to your specifications. I've built fishing canoes, double seat canoes and canoes just for display. YES, I will sell the canoes separately: $1,600 for the "her's" and $1,700 for the "his". Paddles are an additional $100.
