Special edition for Nevada residents, publication of the Nevada State Bureau of Mines and the Mackay School of Mines, 1943.

Hardcover, very good condition. 297 pages. Previous owners name stamp and several places, discreetly placed. Over 20 illustrations including Virginia City images, Comstock miners and many mine sections.

To be noted, the previous owner was geologist from Idaho named Edwin C. DeMoss [1919-2009]. Mr. DeMoss attended Stanford University where he earned a degree in geology and graduated with the class of 1941. His first job after college was in the small mining town of Stibnite in the wilderness of Idaho where he worked hard and enjoyed flying his CallAir airplane. He served in the Navy during WWII and returned to Stubnite. Years later, he and many of his Stibnite family worked as executives for the mining company of Utah International. He had an exciting time traveling the world with his work, and his heart was always in the field with the people and the operations of the mines.

This book chronicles the discovery of the Comstock Lode in 1859, which led to a rush of miners and prospectors to the area in search of silver and gold.The book covers the early history of the Comstock Lode, including the discovery of gold in California and the subsequent migration of miners to Nevada. It then describes the discovery of silver in the area and the development of the mining industry, which brought great wealth to the region.The book also explores the social and economic impact of the Comstock Lode on the surrounding communities, including the growth of towns like Virginia City and the establishment of businesses and industries to support the mining operations.Throughout the book, Smith provides detailed accounts of the mining techniques used during this time period, as well as the challenges and dangers faced by miners working deep underground. He also examines the role of technology in the mining industry, including the use of steam engines and other machinery.
