TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I try to tailor my instruction to fit whatever each individual student requests. Whatever you desire to learn out of lessons we will work cooperatively to achieve. Above all, I understand that people lead busy lives and that it is difficult to incorporate the challenges of learning an instrument into an everyday routine. For this reason I have a strict "no-guilt" policy in my lessons. I never scold or reprimand for not practicing; instead I try and work with you to utilize the time we have together productively.

LESSON SPECIFICS
Typically students take one half hour lesson a week, but we can negotiate what works best for your situation. I like to teach siblings, married couples, or parent/child combinations with back-to-back lessons and give the option of group drumming instruction and live percussion exercises. If you want you can bring a friend who plays an instrument so we can have a structured jam at the end of a lesson. Cost is $10 per half hour. A drum set is not necessary to start lessons and I can help with advice in purchasing a set or securing a rental (I occasionally have a rental set available).

I am currently offering a beginning student package for $50. This includes one month of lessons (four sessions), a set of Nova drumsticks, and a �green� practice pad made from recycled materials.

Studio Policy
Fees (September � May) Tuition covers four weekly lessons. The monthly tuition is due for the month on the first lesson of each month. Refunds will not be given. Failure to comply with tuition schedule will result in termination of lessons.
Fees (June � August) Due to fluctuating summer schedules there is no monthly tuition, but the hourly rate will still apply.
Missed Lessons Missed lessons are not refundable. However, if prior notice is given, a makeup lesson may be scheduled depending on availability of schedule.
Studio Recitals I give two studio recitals per year. The first is in December and the second in May. All students are required to participate. Dates will be announced at the beginning of each semester.
Practicing Beginners: 30-45 minutes per day 6 days a week

Music Activities I encourage participation in orchestras, chamber music, festivals, recitals, and competitions as they arise, but they are not mandatory.

Once you learn how to do that you can begin to take yourself through songbooks, if you learn how to use the printed music, there is a vast amount of it available everywhere.

Almost all of my students are reading melodies using real notation by the 4th or 5th lesson. Reading melodies they like and want to play. Although my students know how to use tab, Notation is the best way and they all prefer it, once they know the difference. Like the Stairway To Heaven Solo, or any of the beautiful Spanish melodies from J.Rodrigo, or blues , jazz, rock and roll, once you can read, you can read anything in print on your own.

All of my students learn rhythm skills playing scales and songs with a metronome, so you learn how to play in time, as you develop stronger rhythm skills you can play better alone or with other people.
