BOISE MASTER CHORALE CELEBRATES 34th CONCERT SEASON WITH 100 VOICES
Chorale set to perform works of Felix Mendelssohn November 6 and 8

BOISE – The impact of 100 voices singing together in classic harmony is something that’s truly only understood through experience. No words are adequate to describe the rich tones, and the influence upon the soul that such a sound can have. With an expanded membership this year, the Boise Master Chorale is now a true 100-member choir and the public is invited to experience their music November 6 and 8, as the Chorale celebrates Felix Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday.
“The ‘100 voices’ is a traditional benchmark for the Chorale,” said Dr. James Jirak, director of the Boise Master Chorale. “While our membership numbers have been near 100 for the last few years, it’s always something for which we strive. As a choral director, it’s a wonderful experience to work with such great talent and I look forward to sharing this delight with the Treasure Valley this season.”
Under the direction of Dr. Jirak, the Chorale will perform Mendelssohn’s “Magnificat,” a composition written when the composer was just 13-years-old. The program also includes Mendelssohn’s beautiful “Psalm 42,” which was written during his honeymoon. Both works employ an expanded orchestra with strings, full brass, double woodwinds, organ, and timpani.
Soloists for the concert include Marvin Bloomquist, baritone, and sopranos Merilee Bennett, Alana Seacord and Sarah Mitchell. The Chorale will be accompanied by members of the Boise Baroque Orchestra.
The chorale performs Friday, November 6 at Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 8 at the Cathedral of the Rockies at 2:00 p.m. Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene is a new venue for the Chorale this year and is located in Meridian at 150 S Maestra Street which is just south of I-84 off Meridian Road. Season tickets are available for $45 until November 1st, individual concert tickets are $20 each. Both are available at www.boisemasterchorale.net.

The Boise Master Chorale is a 100-voice auditioned community choir that has served the greater-Boise area since 1975. The Chorale has produced more than thirty years of choral masterworks, often collaborating with local arts groups including the Boise Philharmonic orchestra, Boise Baroque Orchestra, Ballet Idaho, the Treasure Valley Concert Band, Idaho Dance Theatre, Opera Idaho Childrens Chorus, and others. The Chorale has commissioned and premiered two pieces for choir and orchestra: Sons of the West by Vijay Singh in 2004 and And None Shall be Afraid by Dr. Paul Aitken in 2008.
